Price-Drop Countdowns
Some apparel merchants offer on-going price-drop events:
Lands' End On the Counter event is on all the time. You can get up to 75% off Lands' End On the Counter. The way it works is that the prices get substantially reduced from the original catalog price "On the Counter," in very limited quantities. Updated every Saturday. On Monday, that discount price is reduced another 25%. On Wednesday, 50%. And on Friday, 75%. off.
Blair.com 7-Day Clearance Countdown is also fun to watch. Every Monday Blair will introduce a brand new group of products to our Clearance Countdown. These items are available in very limited quantities and are an additional 10% off our already low clearance prices. On Wednesday, Blair will reduce the prices of all these items to 25% off clearance prices... and then to 50% off on Friday!
End of the Season
If you can wait, wait until the end of the season to shop for seasonal clothes. Most apparel sales take place in July and January. During July and January, you'll find the most sales in stores and online.
Size for You
Size varies, and they seem never completely carried in stores. Often time, you find a style you like but your size is not in stock. Though shopping online does not guarantee your size's availability, you do have a better chance of finding your size available online. Whether you're petite or plus size, the choices online is often more than in-store for the same merchant.
Multi-Channel Merchants
Some merchants like Gap offers shoppers to shop online at Gap.com and allow them to easily return offline. If you're not satisfied with a Gap.com purchase, simply take your order back to a Gap street store to get a refund or exchange. Stores with offline presences offer extra conveniences when you need them.
Sale and Clearance
No two styles are exactly the same, but you may be able to find similar style clothes on sale or at a discounted price. Visit multiple stores before making your final purchase decision. Many online apparel merchants run sales several times a year. Some of them do offer different promotions from month to month. Be aware of promotions when you don't have to pay full prices. Do a simple deal search on apparel to spot current promotional codes to apply to your checkout.
